ちがうのである。
これが全くちがうのだ。
これまでの大脳生理学が全く気づいていない脳が一つあったのだ。
これまでの大脳生理学は、古い皮質(旧皮質・古皮質)と、新しい皮質(新皮質) しか知らなかった。ところが、このほかに、重要な脳がもう一つあったのであ る。
それは、他の二つの脳を統合し、コントロールする最も重要な脳であった。 そういう機能を持った脳のあることを、これまでの大脳生理学は知らなかった。 それは「間脳」と呼ぶ脳である。大脳生理学は、生理学としてこの脳のあるこ とを知っていたけれども、その機能についてはほとんど知ることがなかったの である。
わたくしは、この脳を、「霊性の場」と呼んで、「間脳思考』(一九八四年一月 刊行、平河出版社)の中で、対談者の質問に対し、つぎのように答えている。
「桐山先生は、ケストラーのいうように人間は、脳に致命的な設計ミスを持
った異常な生物種であるとお考えになりますか?」
「いや、わたくしはそう思いません。設計はほとんど完全に近かったと思い
すると、設計は完全に近かったが、設計通りに進行しなかったということ

いるのです。だから、この部位がその設計の通りに活動していたら、人類は ケストラーのいうように狂気の症状をあらわさなかったでしょう。した がって、いまのような破壊に直面するようにはならなかったのです。 ところ が、この部位が進化の途中で閉鎖されてしまった。そのために、人類は超 “になってしまったのです」
「ふうむ、これはおどろくべき発想ですね」
「発想じゃないのです。事実なのです」
「その霊性の部位とはどこですか?」発
大脳の最も中心である間脳の視床下部です。 このいちばん奥に、その部 位があります。ただし、これがはたらくためには、そのすぐそばにある松果 腺という内分泌腺の特殊なはたらきが必要です」
それは大脳生理学者の説ですか?」
「いいえ、そうじゃありません。わたくしの修行体験による発見です。 イン ドのクンダリニー・ヨーガ、チベットの密教の修行などを参考に、わたくが把握したものです。 脳生理学はまだそこまで到達しておりません。 ただし、 アメリカのホルモン分泌学の権威・D・ラトクリフという学者は、その著 書『人体の驚異』(小学館)の中で、おもしろいことを言っております。
その機能がようやくわかりかけてきた松果腺は、脳の下側にくっついて いる小さな毬果形の腺で、人間が原始時代の祖先から受けついできた第三
この目の残跡と推定されている』
というのです。
第三の目というのをご存じですか?」
ずうっと以前に、そういう題名の本を読んだことがあります。 なんとかい 英国人が、チベットでラマ僧について密教の修行をし、眉のあいだに、
四次元世界や霊界を見ることができる第三の目を持ったという内容で、ベス トセラーになりましたね。もうほとんど内容を記憶しておりませんが、読ん おぼえがあります」
「そうですか、わたくしは、『密教・超能力の秘密』で、このラトクリフの
ヒトの脳の設計には致命的なミスがあった?
文章を引用して、こうのべております。『第三の目とホルモン」という文章 で、
「おそらく、ひとは、「第三の目」などというと、いかにも空想的な、馬 鹿馬鹿しいことのように思うかも知れない。 しかし、ヒトは、たしかに第 三の目を持っていたのである。いや、げんに持っているのだ。人間のから だのなかで最も重要なはたらきをする内分泌腺をくわしく調べてゆくと、 それがはっきりしてくるのである。
ヒトはまさしく第三の目を持ち、しかもそれはJ・D・ラドクリフのい うように、残跡”ではなく、いまでも、活用すれば、実際に“見る”こ とすら可能なのである。 最近の科学の実験がそれを証明している(一九八四 年三月・サイエンス誌)。その最近の実験を紹介する前に、ひとつ、この不思 議なはたらきをする内分泌腺というものを、もう少しくわしく調べてみよ うではないか』

「その第三の目が、つまり、先生のおっしゃる霊性の部位というわけです
「いや、ちょっとちがいます。 密接な関係はあるが、ちょっとちがいます。 第三の目は、ラトクリフのいうように、松果腺です。 わたくしのいう霊性の 場は、それよりすこし深部の視床下部のそばです」
「それはどうちがうのですか?」
「なるほど」
「それは、ひと口でいうと、第三の目というのは、霊的次元のさまざまな現 象を知覚し、 見聞する能力を持つ目、といったらよいでしょう。 視床下部の ほうはそれを動かす“場”です。 それはつまり、いまわれわれが持つ普通の 目と脳との関係にあると思ったらよいでしょう」
視床下部がなぜ霊性の場であるかということについて、わたくしは、
密教・超能力の秘密』で、脳生理学と、ホルモン分泌学と、酵素薬理学の 三つの面から解明しています。 この視床下部が第三の目として活動する
とき、人間は霊性を顕現するのです。その究極において、「密教・超能力の 秘密」でいっているように、カミ、ホトケにまで到達するのです。人間は、 知性・理性の場である新皮質と、本能の座である辺縁系の中間にある「間 脳」に、霊性の場・霊性の脳を持っていたのです。これにより、人間はバラ ンスがとれるのです。 ところが、この間脳にある霊性の場を人間は失ってし
しかし、それを知っている人たちがいた。 その代表が、ゴータマ・ブッ ダシャカです。 シャカは成仏法”という名でこの霊性の場を再開発する システムを完成した。そして古代密教が、これを受けついだ」
「古代密教とおっしゃるのは、どういうわけですか?」
後世の密教は、大乗仏教の影響をうけて、シャカがつたえたシステムを様 式化してしまったのです。まったくちがったものにしてしまった」 「なるほど」
「しかし、仏像とか、仏画とかは、古代密教の表象をそのままつたえていま す。密教の仏像の多くが、第三の目を持っているのはこのためです」 あの眉間のところにある目ですね?」まったの

「そうです。 その密教の代表ともいうべき仏像が、摩首羅です。 これは、 梵語の Maheśvara (マーシュバラ)を音写したもので、これを「大自在天』
漢訳し、宇宙の大主宰神とされております。眉間に第三の目があって、合 計、三つの目を持っています。われわれは、目が二つです。 その二つの目の 一つは、辺縁系の脳に通ずる目であり、もう一つは新皮質の脳に通ずる目で、
この二つが一対になって、現象世界 (物質世界)を見るのです。このほかに、
じつはもう一つの目があった。それは間脳の視床下部の脳に通ずる霊性の目 で、霊的世界を見る目です。 これが、第三の目とよばれるものなのです」 で、その第三の目が、『残跡』 となると同時に、先生のおっしゃる霊性の『場』もはたらかなくなってしまったということですか?」

Ratcliffe, makes an interesting statement in his book The Wonders of the Human Body (Shogakukan).
The pineal gland, whose function is only beginning to be understood, is a small cone-shaped gland attached to the underside of the brain.
It is presumed to be the remains of this eye.”
