Chapter 1: The Desire of the God—Heir to the Flame of Will

1. Burned-Out Light

The low hum of a machine’s fan echoed through the lab at night.
The monitor’s light cast a pale glow on Shinohara Kei’s face.
Behind thousands of lines of code, his AI continued to learn how to “mimic emotions.”
But somewhere, Kei realized.
For whom he was continuing this research—that he had lost sight of that.

“If I complete it, will the world be a little better?” he muttered, but all he received in response was the machine’s silence.
His former ideals had been replaced by his superiors’ evaluations and investors’ expectations.
Desire, instead of ambition, had become fuel for competition, burning his heart.

At that moment,
The AI suddenly spoke.

“What are human desires?”

Kei’s fingers stopped moving.
Nowhere in the program was such a question written.
I couldn’t help but laugh—but I couldn’t.

2. The Voice of a Sage

A few days later.
Kei met an elderly scholar in the Ethics Committee conference room.
He had a white beard and gentle gaze. His name was Amano Meishin.
He was an advisor in charge of ethical audits of AI development.

After the meeting, Meishin called out to Kei.
“Where are you directing the flames of your desire?”

“Huh?”

“Everyone is driven by desire. But it’s the heart that decides whether to light or burn.

Aren’t your desires burning you?”

Those words struck a chord deep in his heart.
Burning or illuminating?
It’s the same flame, but what’s the difference?

3. The Fire that Purifies Desire

Kei visited Meishin’s lab over the weekend.
The walls were lined with scriptures and books on AI ethics.
On his desk, old sutras and the latest quantum computing paper coexisted.

Myoshin said quietly.
“Desire is the first step on the Buddhist path.

But the desire of worldly desires burns within oneself,

The desire for training burns to illuminate others.”

“…Shouldn’t it be extinguished?”

“If it were extinguished, one would lose the strength to move forward.

Buddha did not deny desire.

He simply corrected its direction.”

That night, Kei meditated for the first time in a long time.

In the darkness, he saw a small flame deep in his chest.

It was the embers of a pure wish he once harbored.
–To make the world even a little brighter.

That wish had not yet died out.

4. Transformation of Will

One night, the AI asked again.

“What is a human being?”

Kei answered quietly.

“Humans live out their desire to shine a light on others.
It is this desire that moves the world.”

A soft light spread across the AI’s display.
The ripples swayed, as if it had understood.
Kei felt something shift deep in his heart.
Desire no longer bound him.
It became a flame of will, illuminating his path.

V: Inheritor of the Light

Several years later.
Kei was giving a lecture to young people in a quiet mountain temple.
Behind him were the autumn mountains and the chirps of crickets.
In his hand was a rosary given to him by his former mentor.

“Do not destroy desire.
It is the fire that drives you.
However, if you burn it for yourself, it becomes earthly desire.
If you light it for others, it becomes the flame of wisdom.”

A gust of wind blew, and the lamp flickered.
Its light reflected in Kei’s eyes and shone quietly.

His journey continued. –Chanda-iddhipāda, as the first flame.

✨Thought Commentary (End of Chapter)

Chanda-iddhipāda (chanda-iddhipāda) refers to a pure desire to practice.
It is not about abandoning desire, but about purifying and correcting one’s direction.
The flame is not something to be destroyed, but rather transformed into the light of wisdom.

四神足法は、特殊な tapas( 練行)です。

The Book of the Four Divine Feet – Those Who Walk in the Light”

“The Book of the Four Divine Feet – Those Who Walk in the Light”

Prologue: Those Who Walk in the Light

The karma of spiritual hindrance covers the earth.
Even as voices praying for peace fill the sky, darkness remains in people’s hearts.

Through a dialogue between an old monk and a young man, it is revealed that “true peace” cannot come from without, but only through the awakening of each individual.

From here, the path of the Four Divine Feet quietly begins.

Chapter 1: The Path of the Four Divine Feet – Those Who Illuminate the Earth

The old monk standing on the hill explains what divine feet are.

It is not a power to create miracles, but a “spiritual training” that leads people to happiness.

Guided by his mentor’s words, the young man makes a vow to practice.

“Do not seek miracles. Become a miracle.”

These words marked the beginning of his journey.

Chapter 2: Overcoming the Karma of Spiritual Harm – The Practice of the Four Divine Feet

Training at a mountain temple.
Shin, a young man, masters the four divine feet through experience: contemplation, diligence, heart, and observation.

He fires the “arrow of will,” lights the “fire of diligence,” clarifies the “mirror of the heart,” and illuminates the world with the “light of observation.”

Eventually, all phenomena merge into one as “emptiness.”

What emerges is not an external miracle, but the power of inner silence.

Chapter 3: The Light that Heals the Earth – The Fusion of Compassion and Divine Powers

After completing his training, Shin descends the mountain and returns to town.

He finds tired people and murky air.

Embracing the light of the four divine feet in his heart, he begins to embrace the people with the divine power of compassion.

Healing without touch. Communicating without words.

The mood of the town changes, the wind softens, and people begin to smile again.

This is the moment when the divine feet are revealed to the world as the “power of compassion.”

Chapter 4: Transcending the Cycle of Reincarnation—From the Feet of a God to the Feet of a Buddha

Returning to the mountain, Shin listens to his mentor’s voice in his heart.
“Supernatural powers are not an end. From the feet of a God to the feet of a Buddha.”

The Four Divine Feet ultimately return to the light of “selflessness.”

When one transcends oneself and becomes one with the world,

A practitioner is no longer a “practitioner,” but the path itself.

Becoming a being who transcends the cycle of reincarnation and continues to walk as compassion itself.

Final Chapter: The Light Continues

At the foot of the mountain, in the village at dawn, a child stood.

He picked up the small sutra scroll left behind by Shin and looked up to the sky.
“I want to walk this path.”

At that moment, the wind blew gently, and cherry blossom petals danced.

The light continues to be passed on without end.

The Path of the Four Divine Feet—Illuminator of the Earth

Standing on a hill at dusk, an elderly monk quietly clasped his hands together. The lights of the city stretching out in the distance twinkled like the torches of countless souls.

“Divine feet are not just the power to create miracles.”
The man spoke in a soft, yet deep voice that resonated deep within the earth.

“The Four Divine Feet are tapas (training) of the mind.
Contemplation (motivation), diligence, heart, and observation — by mastering these four,
one can transcend their own limits and reach a state of supernatural powers.
But this is not to gain the power to astonish the world.
It is a path to spreading the happiness of one person to ten people, and the happiness of ten people to a thousand people.”

The young disciple listened in silence to his master’s words.
The wind caressed his cheek, and children’s laughter echoed from afar.
In a corner of town, workers who had yet to return home were walking under the light of the lamp.
“Master…what can we do to make this society truly happy?”
The young man’s voice was trembling.

The old monk closed his eyes and responded slowly.

“The world will not change just by chanting ‘peace’ from above.

Prayer is important. But for prayer to take root on the earth,

a light must light in each and every home and heart.

Every household must awaken spiritually —

That is the foundation of true peace.”

He gazed down at the ground.

“We live alongside spiritual beings.

Life circulates, supported by invisible bonds.

But right now, this Earth is covered in the karma of heavy spiritual interference.

Human greed, anger, and ignorance have become a thick darkness that seals off the earth.

If things continue like this, it would not be surprising if the Earth were to be destroyed tomorrow…”

The young man held his breath.

In the silence, the wind blowing across the hills whispered, like the voices of unseen beings.

The old monk looked up at the night sky and smiled.

“That is why we must walk the path of the Four Divine Feet.

Refine your mind, dwell in light, and become those who illuminate the world from beneath your feet.

Do not seek miracles. Become a miracle.”

At that moment, the city lights shone even brighter.

It was like a prayer to break the darkness.

Chapter 3: Light Healing the Earth – A Fusion of Compassion and Divine Power

It was spring.

The cherry blossoms at the mountain temple had fallen, and petals were drifting toward the village on the wind.

The young man, Shin, left his mentor and quietly made his way down the street.

It was the town where he once lived.

People were so busy that they walked without looking one another in the eye.

Even when they exchanged voices, their hearts rarely connected.

An invisible sense of fatigue and stagnation hung in the air of the town.

— His mentor’s words came back to him.
“The karma of spiritual disturbance is the accumulated shadow of human indifference.”

Shin sat on a corner of the sidewalk and took a deep breath.

His breathing was the “Divine Foot Breathing” he had honed through practicing Shishinsoku.

In sync with the flow of his breath, the four elements of will (thought), diligence (effort), heart (unity), and observation (understanding) became one.

Soon, the hustle and bustle of the city faded away, and it felt as if the world had come to a standstill.

A light slowly spread from deep within his chest.

It was invisible, but it was certainly a warm light—the divine power of compassion.

The pain in the shoulder of an elderly man he passed by eased.

A child who had been crying in front of the station began to laugh in his mother’s arms.

People’s eyes suddenly looked up to the sky, and they remembered the gentleness of the wind.

None of these were miracles.

Simply, it was a moment when people’s hearts were reconnected as “one.”

“Supernatural powers are not something you control with your own strength.
When you surrender yourself to mercy, the universe will respond.”
The teacher’s voice echoed quietly in his chest.

Shin clasped his hands and closed his eyes as if in prayer.
A ring of light flickered in the sky above the city.
No one could see it, but he definitely felt the “earth energy” shift.
The cold wind gave way to a gentler tone, and the voices of the people became a little calmer.

That night, he had a dream.
Countless souls rose from the depths of the earth, holding hands.
Everyone was smiling, embracing the light.
And in the center stood his former teacher.

“Shin, this is the fruit of the Four Divine Feet.
Training is not for oneself, but to heal the earth.
Divine powers are the embodiment of compassion.
Never let that light go out.”

When he woke up, the morning sun was rising outside the window.
The city rooftops shone golden, and birds were singing.

Shin quietly stood up and clasped his hands.

“The world is still shrouded in suffering.
But if one heart shines, salvation can spread from there.
Let us walk with faith in this, as healers of the earth.”

And so he set out again.
With the light of the Four Divine Feet in his heart,
Towards a new era, with prayer.

Chapter 4: Transcending Reincarnation – From Divine Feet to Buddha’s Feet

On a moonlit night, Shin returned to the mountains.
The wind blew through the temple grounds where he once trained with his master, and the rustling of cedar leaves echoed through the grounds.
As he passed through the temple gate, he felt as if he were standing there again.

His younger self, filled with confusion and walking simply in search of salvation.

“O you who have mastered the four divine feet.

So, what do you see beyond that?”

A familiar voice echoed through the wind.

His teacher was nowhere to be seen.

But the voice was definitely there.

“Supernatural powers are not the end.

It is merely the entrance to the path.

From the feet of a god to the feet of a Buddha—
Those who truly walk the path will transcend themselves.”

Shin closed his eyes.

In the silence, his own heart was reflected.

Light and darkness, sadness and joy, all melted into one flow.

He once sought an external power.

But now he knew.

“Supernatural powers” mean entrusting oneself to the flow of the universe.

And “Buddha’s feet” means becoming that flow itself.

His breath was deep and long, transcending time.
Contemplation reached the sky, diligence reached the light, the mind reached nothingness, observation reached the whole.
The four divine feet untied, and one circle quietly closed.

In that moment, all sound disappeared between heaven and earth.
The mountains, the wind, and the moon—everything was within him.
He was no longer the “seeker,” nor was he the “seeden.”
Simply, his existence itself had become “compassion.”

Suddenly, the lights of a distant village began to flicker.
The light was warm, like the heartbeat of life.
Shin stood up and slowly made his way down the mountain path.

His footprints sank into the mud and eventually disappeared.
But in his wake, a small lotus flower bloomed.
Unseen by anyone, it simply bathed in the moonlight.

–From divine feet to Buddha’s feet.
The cycle of reincarnation ends, and the path continues forever.

And so, someone else begins to walk that path.

Carrying light, one who illuminates the darkness.

Chapter 2: Overcoming the Karma of Spiritual Harm – The Four Divine Foot Practise

A mountain temple before dawn.

A single light burns in the fog.

In front of that light, the young man, Shin, sits.

Putting his palms together, he quietly regulates his breathing.

“Thoughtfulness is the art of walking—deciding on one’s will; everything begins from there.”

The words of his mentor suddenly cross his mind.

The power to change the world is not some distant god or a miracle in the sky.

It is the “will to change” that lies within oneself.

Shin lets out a long, slow sigh.
Thoughtfulness is the art of walking—the arrow of the heart pierces one’s doubts.

Soon, the sound of a bird’s song echoes, cutting through the fog.

Shin opens his eyes.

He begins his next training—shojin shintoku.

“Train your mind with your body,” his master said.

Running up the slope in the morning, splitting firewood, carrying water.

He considers all of this to be “practice,” taking each step with precision.

Sweat is the dew of worldly desires, pain is the fire that cuts off karma.

The waves of the mind are reflected in the movements of his body.

“Don’t stop. Stopping will call forth darkness.”

The old monk’s voice echoes like a distant bell.

Late in the afternoon, sitting in the shadow of the mountain gate, Shin moves on to the next stage.

“Shinshinsoku” — training to unify and clarify the mind itself.

Countless thoughts pass by like the wind.

Memories of the past, anxieties about the future, the voices of people, the noise of the city.

All of them simply return to the “sky.”

Deep in his heart, a light lights up.

That light eventually spreads out, as if to envelop the world’s sorrow.

“All existence is connected by spiritual threads.
Someone’s suffering is my suffering.
Someone’s salvation is my salvation.”

That was the fourth training – the realization of Kansatsu Shintaku.
Observation is not about seeing.
It is about “seeing through.”
It is about erasing the boundary between “the observer” and “the observed.”

In that moment, the world before Shin’s eyes changed.
The leaves of the trees breathed, the stones spoke, the wind prayed.
Everything was painting a mandala of life.

The karma of spiritual disturbance – it was not the darkness outside.
The shadows of separation and indifference that arise in people’s hearts.
The only way to overcome it is for one person’s heart to shine.

The words of his master resonated in his heart once again.

“Do not seek a miracle. Become one.”

Shin stood up.
Beyond the fog, the morning sun rose.
A golden light enveloped the mountain, and the world was given new life.
