ブッダの瞑想体験が意味するもの
ブッダは想になにを求めたか

なんのために瞑想をするのであろうか?
なにを得ようとして、なにを目的として、瞑想をするのか?
展想の一種である神では、「無功徳」あるいは「無所得」であるという。つーり、
なにかを求めて練をしても、なにも得るものはないぞ、というのである。この言
を文字の通りにうけとって、座禅をしてもなにも得るところはない、また、なに
か得ようとして座禅をするのは、邪道であるというように説くひともいる。しか
し、これはまちがいで、なにかを「得よう」という執着、こだわりを持っての座
神は、一心にやればやるほど、その執着、こだわりにとらわれ拘束されて、そこか
ら一歩、出られず、結局、真に求めるところのものから遠のくばかりであるという
しゅうちゃく
いましたである。文字の通りなにも得るものはないということではないのである。

瞑想も、座禅も、やればやっただけの「所得」があり、「功徳」がある。故・山
本玄峰老師も、「一日座れば一日の仏、二日座れば二日の仏」といっておられる。
では――、どんな所得があり、どんな功徳があるというのか?
ここに、瞑想によってさとりを完成し、仏陀になられたゴータマ・ブッダ(釈
尊)の体験がある。これは、マッジマ・ニカーヤ(中阿含経)という原始経典に
おいて、ゴータマ自身によってかたられたものである。

わたし(釈尊)は、つねに努力精進し、その想いは確立してすこしもみだれ
ず、体は安楽で動揺せず、心は禅定に入って静かである。そのわたしがあると
き、瞑想に入ってしだいに禅定が深まってきた。第一禅定から第二、第三、第
四禅定まで深まるにつれて、心に思い浮かぶなにものもなくなり、喜びや楽し
みだけとなり、そして遂にはそれもなくなって、ただ清浄な想いだけとなっ
た。
そのとき、わたしの心は、一点のけがれもなく、清く明るく、絶対不動であった。そしてわたしの心の展はおのずから前世の光事に関するおそい
れは一生だけではなく、二先、生、十生、二十生、そして組織のの、
きかわり死にかわりした光景が展開してきた。これが第二のである。
それからわたしの心は、あらゆる衆生のすがたに開けられてきた。
超人的な眼力でそのすがたを見た。そこには、買いもの、隊しいもん、いい
もの、映いもの、幸福なもの、不幸なものの、それぞれの後東熱いくいた
これが第二の智慧である。
それからわたしは、苦・集・滅・道の四諸(四つの真理)をありのままに知
り、わたしの心は、あらゆる存在の相から、全く解放され、ふたたびそれに執
着することはなくなった。これが第三の智慧である。(玉城雪訳による)
きには、想の深まりとその効用が、じつにあざやかに、生き生きとかたられ
すべてがここに表現されているといってよい。こ十世紀という時空

凡人にも道はひらかれている
いかがであろうか?すばらしい体験だとあなたは思わないだろうか。これが
演題の効用なのである。そうしてだれでも、誤想をすればこういう効果を得ること
ができるのだ。
だが、そう言うと、あなたは言うかもしれない。釈遷のような大天才と、凡人で
あるわれわれと、どうしていっしょになるものか、駅逃がそういうすばらしい体験
したからといって、それがそのままわれわれに
するとチラのまねをするクラスで、結局、骨折り損のくたびれ
うことになる
とおなじをすることにより、われわれもまたかれと同じ結果に到達する
ことが可能なのである。最初の道をきりひらくものは天才でなければならぬ。しか
し、すでに大手のひらいた道は、だれでも歩むことができるのである。万有引力の
外見は、ニュートンの天才を持たなければならなかったが、いまでは小学校の児童
ら、万有引力は知っている。
もちろん、それは容易な道ではない。しかし、ゴータマ・ブッダは親切な道しる
べい、もしておいてくれた。それを真剣にたどることにより、かれの歩んだ
道やまりな歩むことは不可能ではない。かれが到達した最高の場所まで行く
いは無理だとして、そこまでいいくつかの段階を自分のものにすることはかなら
できるのである。

かれはいったい、なんのために瞑想をはじめたのだ?

人間のからだは苦しみを盛る器である
かれはいったいなんのために瞑想をはじめたのだ? という質問は、そのまま、
われわれはなんのために誤想をはじめるのか? という質問に置きかえることがで
きるであろう。
かれはいったいなんのために瞑想をはじめたのか?
オーダマ・ブッダは、多くのひとの知る通り、「四苦八苦」の解決を目的として
をはじめたのである。
一瞑想についての基礎知識

では、四苦八苦とはなにか?
生・老・病・死」
これを四苦といい、これに、
あいべつり
おんせうまく
「愛別離苦・怨憎会苦・求不得苦・五陰盛苦」
の四苦をくわえて「八苦」という。

それは、
生きてゆく上に生ずるさまざまな苦しみ、
老いの苦しみ、
病気の苦しみ、
死の苦しみ、
そして、
愛するものと別れる苦しみ。
いのちまでもとちかい合った恋人どうし、あるいは、その愛がむくわれてめでた
の愛の天敵、また、親子、兄弟、心から敬愛する師友、知己、みな、うのも
ばれた愛の光線、また、親子、兄弟、心が
いいながらでいるが、いつなんどき別離の悲哀に泣くことになるかもし
なのである。いや、愛するものとは、あながち人間関係のみとはかぎらない。地
ア、極力、職業奉、さまざまなものを、わたくしたちは愛している。そういうもの
と、いやで期はしなければならない苦しみ、これが愛別離苦である。
心の中で、寒く憎んでいる者と、顔を合わせ、生活をともにしていかなけれ
ば写らない苦しみ、その最も深刻な苦しみは、本来いちばん愛し合い和合し合
わなければならないはずの夫婦、親子、兄弟が、かたきどうしのように憎み合い、
参え合いながら、おなじ屋根の下で暮らしていかなければならぬ苦しみであろう。
そうして、環場で上司や病算と毎日、反目し合いながらはたらかなければなちのサ
ラリーマンやOL､の著しみも、これに準ずるものといえようか。
そういえば、いやでいやでたまらない学校へ毎日いって、きらいなこ強をしなけ
はならない学生選者の苦しみも、この恐増西であろうし、ほかにやりたいこと。
があったがる、そのために、まぎなく好きでもない職場に教養するのも、この松
場公家の一つである。だが、考えてみれば、なりゆきとはいえ。この人生におい
についての基礎知識

て、はからずも怨み合い憎み合う人間関係を持たねばなら、辛さ、やりきれなさ、
これが最も大きな怨憎会苦というべきかもしれない。
金、地位、権力、愛情、才能、知識等、求めても求めても得られぬ苦しみ。求め
ることにより生ずる不幸。しかし、また、求めることによって、人類は進歩し、成
長するのである。この皮肉な苦しみ、求不得苦。
うつわ」
考えてみれば、この人間の五体そのものが、苦を盛る器のように思えてくる。
行住坐臥、とりたてていうほどのものではないながら、五体にひしひしと感じる
身心の苦しみ。五陰盛苦である。
まことに、苦の世界とはよくいったもので、いま、この瞬間においても、わた!
したちは、この四苦八苦のどれかの苦しみを味わっているのではなかろうか。

こそ究極の解決法
ゴータマ・ブッダは、この四苦八苦を解
こうみた桃果、さいごに、瞑想よりほかないことを知ったのである。そうしてかれ
は成功した。
だからあなたも、ゴータマのように、あなたの人生に四苦八苦を感じて、なんと
かそれを解決しようと考えたら、このゴータマのあとをたどるよりほかに方法がな
いのである。
もちろん、あなたが、この人生になんの苦しみも感じないということなら、それ

たらしい人とふるい人類―。
いとうは普通の現代人、ホモ・サピエンス Homo-sapiens である。これがふるい人類。
もうひとつは、特殊な能力を身につけた未来人、ホモ、エクセレンス Homo excellens でいかなる。つまりあたらしい人類だ。
ホモ・サピエンスとは、ほかならぬわれわれ自身のことであるが、ホモ・エクセレンスとは、どういうヒトか?
ホモ・エクセレンスとは、ホモ・サピエンスが持たない特別な能力を身につけた「優秀なるト」という意味である。ある人たちは、この未来人に、ホモ・インテリゲンス(聡明なるヒト)という名をつけている。
では、この優秀なる未来人、ホモ・エクセレンスは、どういう特殊な能力を持っているか?
彼の持っいくっかの特長をあげてみよう。

さて、いよいよ脳のチャクラの訓練に入るが、その前におこなっておくべき、いくつかの初歩的な瞑想訓練法を紹介する。

わたくしは、いま「初歩的な」といったが、これらの訓練法をじっさいにやってみると、なかなかむずかしいと感じると思う。
しかしその効果は絶大である。

この章の訓練をみっちりやれば、実生活における、あなたの能力(脳力)は飛躍的に向上するはずである。高い集中力を維持したり、常人の想像もつかない飛
躍したインスピレーションを得るといったことが、容易にできるようになるであろう。

わたくしも、若いころ、これらの訓練を、仕事の合間や電車に乗っているときなどに、くり返しおこなったが、その効験は目をみはるものがあった。

最初は少々むずかしいと思うかもしれないが、くり返し練習することによって、かならずできるようになるので、しっかりととり組んでいただきたい。

この精神集中の状態は二つに分けることができる。
ひとつは「意識的精神集中」で、ひとつのことに意識を集中し、他のものに心を向けない、これを積極的に意識的におこなうのである。これは修行のはじめの
過程として、だれでも通るものである。

つぎの段階が、「無意識的精神集中」の状態である。これは、高度のもので、
意識的稽神集中をつづけているうちに、習練によって条件づけられ、ついに、とくに意識しないでもひとつのことに心を集中することができるようになる。
これによって無意識の意識層をコントロールし、ふつうでは絶対に統御できない無料識の意識を、ある特定の対象に向すること心の流れにまかせるとは

つぎに、ビパシャナ(観)である。

これは、ひとつのことに注意をとどめない。心の動きのひとつひとつに心を向けていくが、ひとつのことにとどまっていない。心の流れにまかせるのであ
る。これにも、「意識的瞑想」と「無意識的瞑想」がある。「意識的瞑想」は、表面意識が心の流れを観ている。
「無意識的瞑想」は、深層意識の心の流れそのものになっている。

では、その深層意識の流れを観ているものはなにか? だれが深層意識の流れを観ているのか?それは「無意識的精神集中」の心である。
だから、「止」と「観」は密接な関係があるのである。いまおこなわれている瞑想のほとんどは、「止」か「観」か、どちらかにかたよっている。禅は「止」
にウエイトがかかり、瞑想(としてやっているもの)は、「観」が主である。
