ピンガラ・イダーの呼吸法

ともあれ、古代ヨーガと密教と、この二つのものはひとつにならねばならぬ。本来、それはひとつのものだったのだ。原点に立ちもどってひとつになることにより、それは、偉大な力を発揮する。

まー、その口火を私が切った。私を乗りこえてゆく人びとに、私は大きな期待をかける。

 

ながよ古代神道息吹き長世》はインドにあった――ピンガラ・イダーの呼吸法

 

この橋は、古代ヨーガと密教の秘密のかけ橋であった、と私は前の文章で書いたが、さらに、わがくにの古代神道にまでその道が通じていたとは、さすがの私にもまったく思いがけぬことで
わった。

 

古代神道に、「息吹き長世の法」(または伊吹き長代ともしるす)と称せられる秘法があった。

一種の呼吸法であるが、『神人一”の秘術として、代々、皇室につたえられていた。一部民間にも伝承されたが、いつの時代からか、消滅してしまったのだ。戦乱の時代、皇室衰微のときに絶えたのであろう。

 

名のみって、実体の法は無く、ゆえに幻の秘法とされてきた。こういうこと
は、よくあることで、たとえはらがうが、足利時代にさかんであった「眠薬の舞」などがそうでるのはのこり、絵図などもあるが、一本足の竹馬に乗って舞う技術が、いったいどのようちのわから、いまはただその竹馬に片足をかけて露うだけであるという。

 

き長のも、それで、私も以前、修行中に、これが最大き長世の法であるといなってしまうのではないかと思われ、

大の男が思わず悲鳴をあげてしまう。
このときは気がつかなかった。のちになって、このときの呼吸のしかたが異常だったことに気がつき、何度もそれをくりかえしてみた。最初はできなかったが、定に入り、腫部と胸部のチャ
クラはい、次にこの特殊な呼眠法ができるようになった。寒熱目在の息を吐く呼吸法のコツが体得できた。

はなしに聞く息吹き長世の呼既法がこれであると合点された。

息吹き長の原点は、古代ヨーギーが、なかにやったのである。この呼吸の技術は、古代ヨーガ独悪いもいる。

この古代ヨーガの技術がどのようにしてわが国の古代神道にとり入れられたものか、私に小判然としない。おそらくは、神代とよばれる古い時代に、古代ヨーガぎはした超人が、人から
渡来してこれをつたえたものであろう。あるいは、それが、この国で神とよばれるこの国の始祖になったのかも知れない。

たしかに、この特構な呼吸法は、肺と心臓の機能をいちじるしく強化して、全身の血流を浄化し、体力にたかめると同時に精神ぎふかく無静させ、頭脳を新鮮な思営力でみたしてくれる。

また、それはいのおくふかふかおかしいンさかきたててくれるようである。それは古代の神への回帰でかろうか。ふかい定に入ると、たくましい古代の神々が、果てしなく深い評!
におぶって、厚い胸をそらし、声をかぎりに神叫びにおらぶ、はたかな声がわが胸に躍動して

くる思いだ。この地の池に充実を持ちつづけるならば、人はたしかに三〇〇歳を生きつづはるごとも無事ではない。私はいま、この呼既法き、だれでも容易に体得できるよう、あたらし
いま渋べきだ世の道元はかりっ、ある。古神道の行法にのっとり、ヨーガのチャクり入れたビンタ、ざーの開発法はすでにほとんど完成している。ただ、この法は、ごミリメートが、濃いとし、もし間違えるとよくない影響もあると考えられるので、
ベンド、就で、たえることは不可能です。実地の指導なくしては体得し得ない。

サハスララ・チャクラ Sahasrara chakra

神力の様であり、これこそまさに輝けるたましいの宝冠である。この宝冠こそ、ほんとうに帰い人が頭上にいただく宝冠である』
と氏はいっている。
このチャクラを、ヨーロッパにおいて宝冠チャクラと呼ぶのは、おそらくこういうところに起
因するのではなかろうか。たしかに、仏陀こそ、もっともすぐれたる超人であることに間違いは
なく、そうして、超人すなわち越・ヒト、ホモ・エクセレンスにほかならず、その超人の住む世
界こそ、まさに超人類社会』にほかならぬのである。超人類社会を創造する鍵はまさにここに
あるのである。

 

第二の発見 ――ヒトはなぜ手を持つか?

 

以上で一心ヨーガのチャクラの解説は終った。さきに述べた内分泌腺と対照して見るならば、
おのずから興味のふかいものがあるであろう、といったら、注意ぶかい読者は、ここで、おそら
く、はてな?と首をかしげるに相違ないのだが、はたしてあなたはどうであろうか?
もしも不審に思うことがなかったら、もう一度よく前の項に目を通してほしいものである。
おわかりか?

 

九つのチャクラと九つの内分泌腺,と節題をつけながら、前の項で解説しているチャクラは、
七つしかないのである。あとの二つはどうしたのか?それとも、九っというのは活字の誤植熱線や港ないのである。

私は、古代ヨーガの行法と、真言密教の行法とをあわせてトレーニングしているうち、たいへんととに気がついたのだ。トレーニングを積んでかなりの力がついてきたのだけれども、
かんじんのその力を発揮する方法がないということである。最初、私は、それだけの力がまだ自
分についていないのであろうと思っていた。しかし、しだいしだいにみちてくる力を全身に感じ
く、後、ついに苦しくなってきた。鬱勃とみちみちてくる潮のごときこの力を思いきり叩きつ
けるごとくほとばしらせてみたい。しかし、その方法をヨーガは持たぬ!

 

そういえば、あなたもはや気がついたであろう。ヨーガのチャクラは”ダルマさん」であのに、手も足もない。あるのは頭と胴体だけだ。
し力の護摩の完成を志していなかったら、あるいはこのことに気がつかなかったかが、ひたすら今まで通のヨーガの修行をして、ヨーガのワクのなかで修行を完成して
いない。しかし、私然、力の護摩を焚くという目的があった。私は、金方のくために、古代ヨーガの法に入ったのだ。ヨーガに、手、足、という。力を他に伝達する
を用いる方法がないのは、ヨーガというものがどこまでも自己完成を目的としたものである
めなのかも知れない。しかし、私は念力の護摩を焚かればならない。

 

私の修行は次にすすんで、ムラダーラ、スヴァンスクーナの二つのチャクラは完全にマスタ
ーし、マニピューラ・チャクラのトレーニングに入っていた。このチャクラの修得も次第にす!
み、定に入っていると、チャクラの中心から、透明な火婚(のようなエネルギー)が凍よいか
のが見えるようになった。ヨーガ・スートラにいうサマーナの気を統御すれば身体から大婚
することができる。とあるそのサマーナ気を私は克服しつつあった。しかし、そのサマーナ

手は、ヒトの力を具現化する。ヒトにとって手は力を伝達する道具である。思考は声になって
あらわれ、力は手によって形をあらわす。思考でさえ手であらわすことができるではないか。
手だ! 私はひたすら手に思念を凝らし、手にエネルギーを集中した。
トレーニングがヴィシュダー・チャクラに進んだときであった。突然、手が無意識のうちに動
きはじめた。私はそのとき、ひとつのエネルギーになりきっていた。手は、手自身ひとつの生き
ものとなってそのエネルギーを奔出させようと欲するもののごとく大きく強く動いた。私はその
流れに乗っていた。
たんちょ
これが、私のチャクラ「手印・チャクラ」誕生の端緒であった。
これは当然のことであった。ヴィシュダー・チャクラは、奥義書によると、上肢(両腕、脇部

の筋肉と深い関係があるとされている。ヴィシュダー・チャクラの修得により、私の火のエネル
ギーは、両腕にその通路をひらいたのである。しかし、その完成はまだ先のことであった。それ
は、もうひとつの重要な発見がなされるまで待たなければならなかった。しかし――、五千年の
長い間、だれひとり知るものがなかったムドラー・チャクラ開発のいとぐちはここにひらけたの
である。私は、日夜、ひたすらその完成に身を焼いた。
クンダリニーの秘密

 

佐保田鶴治博士のヨーガの分類によると、『インドでヨーガとよばれている行法や思想はあま
りにもや根や様である。それら数十にも及ぶヨーガの流派は、その狙いどころも違っておれば、
その修行方法も迷っていて、それらに共通した特色や本質をさがし出すことはたいへんにむずか
しい。いま、それら多くの流派のなかから最も特色のあるものをとり出し、それら各流派の行法
にりに現代的な用語をもって特色づけるとするならば、つぎのようなことになる。

のの本にの高るものもしては、体質をとるツィア1ャーマ・ヨーガという一流者あ
る。題し期学的な現象を物色とするクンダリニー・ルーガも広く世界の注目を浴びている。解説
スーツの楽器」を求めるにあたって、私は、これら数多くあるヨーガのうち、希教―。
戦にもっとも深い製縁のあるヨーガとして、クンダリニー・ヨーガをえらんで入っている

ブッダの瞑想体験が意味するもの
ブッダは想になにを求めたか

 

 

なんのために瞑想をするのであろうか?
なにを得ようとして、なにを目的として、瞑想をするのか?
展想の一種である神では、「無功徳」あるいは「無所得」であるという。つーり、
なにかを求めて練をしても、なにも得るものはないぞ、というのである。この言
を文字の通りにうけとって、座禅をしてもなにも得るところはない、また、なに
か得ようとして座禅をするのは、邪道であるというように説くひともいる。しか
し、これはまちがいで、なにかを「得よう」という執着、こだわりを持っての座
神は、一心にやればやるほど、その執着、こだわりにとらわれ拘束されて、そこか
ら一歩、出られず、結局、真に求めるところのものから遠のくばかりであるという
しゅうちゃく
いましたである。文字の通りなにも得るものはないということではないのである。

 

瞑想も、座禅も、やればやっただけの「所得」があり、「功徳」がある。故・山
本玄峰老師も、「一日座れば一日の仏、二日座れば二日の仏」といっておられる。
では――、どんな所得があり、どんな功徳があるというのか?
ここに、瞑想によってさとりを完成し、仏陀になられたゴータマ・ブッダ(釈
尊)の体験がある。これは、マッジマ・ニカーヤ(中阿含経)という原始経典に
おいて、ゴータマ自身によってかたられたものである。

わたし(釈尊)は、つねに努力精進し、その想いは確立してすこしもみだれ
ず、体は安楽で動揺せず、心は禅定に入って静かである。そのわたしがあると
き、瞑想に入ってしだいに禅定が深まってきた。第一禅定から第二、第三、第
四禅定まで深まるにつれて、心に思い浮かぶなにものもなくなり、喜びや楽し
みだけとなり、そして遂にはそれもなくなって、ただ清浄な想いだけとなっ
た。
そのとき、わたしの心は、一点のけがれもなく、清く明るく、絶対不動であった。そしてわたしの心の展はおのずから前世の光事に関するおそい
れは一生だけではなく、二先、生、十生、二十生、そして組織のの、
きかわり死にかわりした光景が展開してきた。これが第二のである。
それからわたしの心は、あらゆる衆生のすがたに開けられてきた。
超人的な眼力でそのすがたを見た。そこには、買いもの、隊しいもん、いい
もの、映いもの、幸福なもの、不幸なものの、それぞれの後東熱いくいた
これが第二の智慧である。
それからわたしは、苦・集・滅・道の四諸(四つの真理)をありのままに知
り、わたしの心は、あらゆる存在の相から、全く解放され、ふたたびそれに執
着することはなくなった。これが第三の智慧である。(玉城雪訳による)
きには、想の深まりとその効用が、じつにあざやかに、生き生きとかたられ
すべてがここに表現されているといってよい。こ十世紀という時空

心の眼はさらに広く深く

これが第二の世の獲得である。
「第五の段階」
1、宿業から解脱する四つの真理を如実に知り、
る、あらゆる存在からの解脱と超越を完成した。
それは第三の質感の獲得であり、「解脱の瞑想」であった。
凡人にも道はひらかれている
いかがであろうか?すばらしい体験だとあなたは思わないだろうか。これが
演題の効用なのである。そうしてだれでも、誤想をすればこういう効果を得ること
ができるのだ。
だが、そう言うと、あなたは言うかもしれない。釈遷のような大天才と、凡人で
あるわれわれと、どうしていっしょになるものか、駅逃がそういうすばらしい体験
したからといって、それがそのままわれわれに
するとチラのまねをするクラスで、結局、骨折り損のくたびれ
うことになる
とおなじをすることにより、われわれもまたかれと同じ結果に到達する
ことが可能なのである。最初の道をきりひらくものは天才でなければならぬ。しか
し、すでに大手のひらいた道は、だれでも歩むことができるのである。万有引力の
外見は、ニュートンの天才を持たなければならなかったが、いまでは小学校の児童
ら、万有引力は知っている。
もちろん、それは容易な道ではない。しかし、ゴータマ・ブッダは親切な道しる
べい、もしておいてくれた。それを真剣にたどることにより、かれの歩んだ
道やまりな歩むことは不可能ではない。かれが到達した最高の場所まで行く
いは無理だとして、そこまでいいくつかの段階を自分のものにすることはかなら
できるのである。

いったい、ゴータマ・ブッダは、なにを目的として瞑想をはじめたのであろう
かれはいったい、なんのために瞑想をはじめたのだ?

人間のからだは苦しみを盛る器である
かれはいったいなんのために瞑想をはじめたのだ? という質問は、そのまま、
われわれはなんのために誤想をはじめるのか? という質問に置きかえることがで
きるであろう。
かれはいったいなんのために瞑想をはじめたのか?
オーダマ・ブッダは、多くのひとの知る通り、「四苦八苦」の解決を目的として
をはじめたのである。
一瞑想についての基礎知識

では、四苦八苦とはなにか?
生・老・病・死」
これを四苦といい、これに、

「愛別離苦・怨憎会苦・求不得苦・五陰盛苦」
の四苦をくわえて「八苦」という。

生きてゆく上に生ずるさまざまな苦しみ、
老いの苦しみ、
病気の苦しみ、
死の苦しみ、
そして、
愛するものと別れる苦しみ。
いのちまでもとちかい合った恋人どうし、あるいは、その愛がむくわれてめでた
の愛の天敵、また、親子、兄弟、心から敬愛する師友、知己、みな、うのも
ばれた愛の光線、また、親子、兄弟、心が
いいながらでいるが、いつなんどき別離の悲哀に泣くことになるかもし
なのである。いや、愛するものとは、あながち人間関係のみとはかぎらない。地
ア、極力、職業奉、さまざまなものを、わたくしたちは愛している。そういうもの
と、いやで期はしなければならない苦しみ、これが愛別離苦である。
心の中で、寒く憎んでいる者と、顔を合わせ、生活をともにしていかなけれ
ば写らない苦しみ、その最も深刻な苦しみは、本来いちばん愛し合い和合し合
わなければならないはずの夫婦、親子、兄弟が、かたきどうしのように憎み合い、
参え合いながら、おなじ屋根の下で暮らしていかなければならぬ苦しみであろう。
そうして、環場で上司や病算と毎日、反目し合いながらはたらかなければなちのサ
ラリーマンやOL､の著しみも、これに準ずるものといえようか。
そういえば、いやでいやでたまらない学校へ毎日いって、きらいなこ強をしなけ
はならない学生選者の苦しみも、この恐増西であろうし、ほかにやりたいこと。
があったがる、そのために、まぎなく好きでもない職場に教養するのも、この松
場公家の一つである。だが、考えてみれば、なりゆきとはいえ。この人生におい
についての基礎知識

 

て、はからずも怨み合い憎み合う人間関係を持たねばなら、辛さ、やりきれなさ、
これが最も大きな怨憎会苦というべきかもしれない。
金、地位、権力、愛情、才能、知識等、求めても求めても得られぬ苦しみ。求め
ることにより生ずる不幸。しかし、また、求めることによって、人類は進歩し、成
長するのである。この皮肉な苦しみ、求不得苦。
うつわ」
考えてみれば、この人間の五体そのものが、苦を盛る器のように思えてくる。
行住坐臥、とりたてていうほどのものではないながら、五体にひしひしと感じる
身心の苦しみ。五陰盛苦である。
まことに、苦の世界とはよくいったもので、いま、この瞬間においても、わた!
したちは、この四苦八苦のどれかの苦しみを味わっているのではなかろうか。

こそ究極の解決法
ゴータマ・ブッダは、この四苦八苦を解
こうみた桃果、さいごに、瞑想よりほかないことを知ったのである。そうしてかれ
は成功した。
だからあなたも、ゴータマのように、あなたの人生に四苦八苦を感じて、なんと
かそれを解決しようと考えたら、このゴータマのあとをたどるよりほかに方法がな
いのである。
もちろん、あなたが、この人生になんの苦しみも感じないということなら、それ
は、誤想などする必要はない。この本もまた無用のものである。そのへんにぼうり
出して、テレビのスイッチでもひねったらよろしい。
しかし、もし少しでもなにかの悩みや苦しみを感じるなら、そうしてそれを
解決しようと思ったなら、それは瞑想によるよりほかないと知るべきである。ほか
に方法はないのである。ゴータマ・ブッダは、ありとあらゆる方法をこころみて、
さいごに、この瞑想にたどりついたのだったから
いまから二千数百年はえ、インドに生まれたゴータマが、皇太子の地位を捨てる
はど控んだ四苦八苦は、現代におけるわたくしたちの四苦八苦となんら変わりはない

But if you feel any worries or sufferings, and you want to solve them, you should know that it is nothing more than meditation. There is no other way. Gautama Buddha tried every possible method and finally arrived at this meditation, so it is more than two thousand years ago, and Gautama, who was born in India, refrains from abandoning his position as crown prince. スシュームナー、イダー、ピンガラの三本

いわれていて一定しないが、そのなかでいちばん外側のサヤは肉体である。他のサヤは微細な村
質からできているので、感覚器官でとらえることはできない。肉体以外のサヤからなるからだは
肉体が死んだあとにも存続し、転生して新しい肉体を得る。ナーディは、そうした知覚できない
からだのひとつのなかを通っている。
この多くの管のなかで最も重要なのは、スシュームナー、イダー、ピンガラの三本である。こ
の三本の管は胴体のなかを並行して上下に通じている。そのうちスシュームナー管は脊柱の中火
を、そのいちばん下から脳内フラーマ・ランドラ)へと通じている。イダーとピンガラはそれぞ
れ左と右の県から発して脊柱の下底(クンダリニーの場所)に至っている。この三つの管、つま
り気道は、クンダリニー・ヨーガにおいて最も重要な役割を持っている』
三浦関造氏は、この三つのオーディについて、つぎのように解説する。
『神髄内には、宇宙線の三通路がある。中央にあるのをスシウムナといい、左側のをイグとい
い、右側のをピンガラという。
呼吸をすれば、空気が鼻から肺臓のなかに流れ入り、空気中の酸素が燃焼して血液を浄化し、
燃えかすの炭酸を吐き出す。ところで自分たちは、呼吸によって、酸素をとっているばかりでな
い。左右外れの奥には、扉づきの小さな門があって、一呼吸ごとに、その扉があかり、門が交替
に開園されて、宇宙線を吸い入れている。右から流れこむ宇宙線は身体を暖めて新作用を司
り、左から流れこむのは身体を冷やし、冷静作用を司っている。だからイダを月の軌道といい、
ギンダラを太陽の軌道という。
「宇宙は帯電振動に満たされている。これを宇宙エネルギー、エーテルホルダー、×は学熱
という。神学者は、宇宙線をとらえようとしているが、仲々成功しない。しかし、われわれの
体は、イダ、ピンがラの通路を通してこれを吸いとっているのである。
イダ、ピンガラに吸いこまれた宇宙線が、脊柱の下までくだると結合満無して、ふしぎな思
作用をおこす。これを火力 (クンダリーニ)の覚醒という。白光のクンダリームはあると、
メシウムサを登って、体内の内分泌腺を強めつつ、頭部にのぼってゆく。脳縦内には大好な中
ある。これをダラマス、精液凝、松果殿という。クンダガーがこの三中心を流すると、
「翼は発多発し、電力を放って、宇宙精神大意識を目ざます。これがまが実器の最大御納やる

不幸な結果を生んでいる。(だから、いくら超能力を得たいと思ったからといって、二階から飛
び降りて尻もちをつくというような冒険をすることだけはやめておくことですな)必ず正しい力
最いる指導者につくようにと、いずれの原典もかたくいましめている所以である。

飛躍的に能力を高める瞑想訓練法

 

さて、いよいよ脳のチャクラの訓練に入るが、その前におこなっておくべき、いくつかの初歩的な瞑想訓練法を紹介する。

わたくしは、いま「初歩的な」といったが、これらの訓練法をじっさいにやってみると、なかなかむずかしいと感じると思う。
しかしその効果は絶大である。

この章の訓練をみっちりやれば、実生活における、あなたの能力(脳力)は飛躍的に向上するはずである。高い集中力を維持したり、常人の想像もつかない飛
躍したインスピレーションを得るといったことが、容易にできるようになるであろう。

わたくしも、若いころ、これらの訓練を、仕事の合間や電車に乗っているときなどに、くり返しおこなったが、その効験は目をみはるものがあった。

最初は少々むずかしいと思うかもしれないが、くり返し練習することによって、かならずできるようになるので、しっかりととり組んでいただきたい。

では瞑想に入ろう。
生中洲欧生。坐漁をもちいる。瞑想の手印を組もう。これが初歩的瞑想のバト※である。(図5、照。ただし、この図では法界定印であるが、後出のアーカー
シャ・ハドラーをもちいる場合もある。瞑想の基本姿勢については『輪廻転生瞑想法=」に、くいしく解説しているので、かならず読んでいただきたい)
県の修行は、二つの領域から成り立つ。
いーとは沖央中法 (concentration)、ひとつは瞑想法 (meditation)である。
これに、いて解説し

 

よう。まず、シャッタ(止)である。

 

と
これは、ひとつのことに心を集中するのである。
数息観がその代表であるが、禅における公案、また、祈りを捧げるとか、経文を読む、真言を唱えるなども、精神集中法のひとつである。要はひとつのこと
に心を集中し、そこに止,まり、動かないことである。

この精神集中の状態は二つに分けることができる。
ひとつは「意識的精神集中」で、ひとつのことに意識を集中し、他のものに心を向けない、これを積極的に意識的におこなうのである。これは修行のはじめの
過程として、だれでも通るものである。

 

つぎの段階が、「無意識的精神集中」の状態である。これは、高度のもので、
意識的稽神集中をつづけているうちに、習練によって条件づけられ、ついに、とくに意識しないでもひとつのことに心を集中することができるようになる。
これによって無意識の意識層をコントロールし、ふつうでは絶対に統御できない無料識の意識を、ある特定の対象に向すること心の流れにまかせるとは

つぎに、ビパシャナ(観)である。

日本の真言宗の開祖である空海が高野山の開基の際に、僧房の次にまず准胝堂を建立し、准胝観音を弟子たちの得度の本尊としてお祀りしたのは有名で、のちに高野山が荒廃した際にも僧俗の手によって庫裡にこの准胝観音を安置し守り続けられた。それゆえ、准胝堂の補修が行なわれた昭和の時代になるまで、高野山では准胝堂で僧侶となるための得度の儀式が執り行なわれていた[20]。また、真言宗醍醐派の開祖・聖宝尊師がこれに倣って醍醐寺の開基に准胝観音を勧請し、その孫弟子の仁海は六観音に准胝観音を加え、その後も長く民衆の信仰を集めている

  • 地婆訶羅三藏の訳による『仏説七倶胝仏母心大准提陀羅尼経』（大正蔵№1077）には、「もし、在家の善男善女らが『准胝真言』を唱え、これを日々に保つことがあれば、その人の家には災難や事故、病気等による苦しみが無く、あらゆる行いには行き違いや望みが果たせないということも無く、その人の言葉は皆が信用して、よく聞いてくれるようになる。また、幸福に恵まれず、才能にも恵まれない人があって、密教の才覚もなく、僧侶の修行である『三十七菩提分法』という釈迦の教えに廻りあうことができない人がいたとしても、この准胝観音の『陀羅尼法』の伝授を受けることができたならば、速やかに無上の覚りを得ることができる。更には、『准胝真言』を常に記憶にとどめ、よくこの真言を唱えて善行となる戒律を守ることができれば、あらゆる願いも成就する」と説かれている。[23]

 

准胝観音(じゅんていかんのん)とは？

准胝仏母（じゅんていぶつも）・七倶胝仏母（しちくていぶつも）ともいいます。もとはヒンドゥー教の女神であるドゥルガーで、シヴァ神の妃とされています。とても美しい姿ですが、神々の武器を持って魔族を倒した戦いの女神です。そのため本来は女尊であり、観音ではないという指摘もあります。しかし、ここでは観音として紹介しますね。

空海の孫弟子にあたる理源大師（りげんだいし）聖宝は修験の僧として知られ、自ら霊木を刻んで祀ったのが准胝観音と如意輪観音でした。経典には、修験者が准胝陀羅尼を唱えれば身が清浄となり成仏できると説かれています。また聖宝は醍醐天皇の皇子誕生を准胝観音に祈願し、のちの朱雀、村上両天皇が誕生したといいます。そのため一般的には子授け、安産としての功徳が知られています。
