釈尊 それからわたしの心は、あらゆる衆生の相に向けられてきた。わたしは超人的な眼力でその相を見た。そこには貴いもの、賤しいもの、美しいも
の、醜いもの、幸福なもの、不幸なものの、それぞれの宿業が渦巻いていた。これが第二の智慧である。
それからわたしは、苦・集・滅・道の四諦（四つの真理）をありのままに知り、わたしの心は、あらゆる存在の相から、全く解放され、ふたたびそれ
に執着することはなくなった。これが第三の智慧である。
釈尊は瞑想によって、自分の前生の、二生、三生、十生、二十生、さらには無
限の生涯の、生き変わり死に変わりしてきた光景を見ているのである。それは自分だけではなく、あらゆる人間の前生と、さらに後有（このっぎの人生）を見て
いるのである。
釈尊はここで、決しておとぎ話や、たとえ話、寓話をのべているのではない。釈尊の成仏法を修行すれば、その真実であることがすぐわかる。その修行によ
り、わたくし白身、人の三、四世代前、そしてつぎの世代における存在までは透視できるようになっているのである。
人間の生命は、多くの人たちが考えているように、決してひとつの生涯だけで終わるものではないのである。ある生涯が終わったら、またひきつづき、つぎの
生命形態に移っていくのである。
多くの人たちはその認識がなく、ひとつの生涯のみで、人の生命は終わるものと思っている。ここに、決定的な、そして致命的な生命観の欠陥があるのであ
る。
霊性とはじつにそれを知る趨性なのだ。
人の依って来たるところを知り、去るところ、往くところを知る能力である。いわゆる来所を知り、往所を知る智慧である。これを得れば、人はおのずから、
なにをなすべきか、なにをなさざるべきかがわかってくる、そこから人間の真の進歩、発展がスタートするのである。それがないから、人間は、霊的に少しも進
歩せず、発展せず、いつまでも低いところを輪廻して、無限にさまよい歩いてい
るのである。いや、それだけではない。その果てに、人間は、自分の住む大切な世界を、自らの手で壊滅させてしまうことになるのであるこの無知を、釈尊は、「無明」（乙忿ごと名づけたのである。
ショウジョケバエの論理
この「無明」という言葉には、二つの意味がある。
まったくの無知と、完全な闇である。
「明」には明知（智慧）と、光明、の二つの意味がある。
真実を悟る智慧を持たず、真っ暗闇の中を、手さぐりで歩いている状態である。まことに人間はそのとおりではないか。来たるところを知らず、往くところを知らず、ただ現在（現生）あるのみである。その現在を、ひたすら目先の利益追求に狂奔する。その結果、いかなるところに往くのか、いかなる世界に、いかお先真っ暗である。
なる生命形態として存在することになるのか、まったくお先真
「第三の目」は、このお先真つ暗な闇の世界を見通すのである。「第三の目」に問はない。真昼のごとく明らかに見ることができるのである。
奇妙なことに思われるかもしれないが、わたくしは、釈尊の十生、二十生を見通す力を思うごとに、ショウジョウバエを想い起こすのである。
ショウジョウバエは、その世代が極端に短い。ふつう、一世代がわずかに約一ヵ月である。だから、何十世代もの変遷を短時間で見ることができる。
そこで、生物学者や、遺伝学者は、ショウジョウバエを使って、その変化を実験する。ひとつの遺伝子の変化が、何十世代のうちに、どういう結果を生ずるか、目のあたりに知ることができるのである。
釈尊の叡智もそれである。
彼のように、何十世代もの人間の移り変わりを如実に見ることのできる力をそなえていれば、ひとつの原因が、どのような経過を経て、どのような結果をもたらしたか、つぶさに知ることができる。彼がじっさいに語っているように、その人間がなんという名前で、いつ、どこに生まれて、どういう人生を送ったか、またその人生を終わって、つぎにまたどういう人生を迎えたか、ある生涯のどんな行為が、つぎの生涯にどんな結果としてあらわれたか、すべての人間にわたって
知ることができる。これがほんとうの叡智なのである。
仏陀の瞑想から輪廻転生瞑想法へ

瞑想のすべてがここに表現されているといってよい。
二十一世紀という時空のへだたりを飛び越えて、読者よ、じつに、瞑想とはかくのごときものなのだ。
ここには瞑想のすべてがある。
この釈尊の体験を、もう少し掘り下げてみょう。
釈尊の瞑想体験には五つの段階がある
ここには、瞑想の深まりとその結果が、じつにあざやかに語られている。
第一の段階
わたしは、
１、つねに一つの目的にむかって精進をつづけることができ、
２、想念が確立してみだれず、
３、からだは安楽で動揺しない。
４、心はいつも定に入って静かである。
－第二の段階
第一禅定から第二、第三、第四禅定までしだいに深まっていって、
１、心に想い浮かぶなにものもなくなり、
２、喜びや楽しみだけとなり、
３、ついにはただ清浄な想いだけにみたされ、
４、一点のけがれもなく、清く明るく、絶対不動となった。
―、自分の前世における光景が展開しはじめる。
２、それは一生だけでなく、二生、三生、十生、二十生、とかぎりなくさか
のぼり、無限の生涯の、生き変わり死に変わりした光景が展開する。
それは生命の根源への遡及であり、第一の智慧の獲得であった。
第四の段階
心の眼はさらに広く深くひろがり、ひとの持つ能力の限界を越えて、過去、現
在、そして未来へと流れていくあらゆるひとびとのすがたが透視される。
それは、存在を規制する宿業の実体の把握であった。
これが第二の智慧の獲得である。
第五の段階
つづいてわたしは、
１、宿業から解説する四つの真理を如実に知り、
２、あらゆる存在からの解脱と超越を完成した。
それは第三の智慧の獲得であり、「解脱の瞑想」であった。
いかがであろうか？ すばらしい体験だとあなたは思わないだろうか？・ こ
れが仏陀の瞑想なのである。そうしてだれでも、仏陀の瞑想をすればこういう境
地に達することができるのだ。
だが、そういうと、あなたはいうかもしれない。釈尊のような大天才と、凡人
であるわれわれと、どうしていっしょになるものか、釈尊がそういうすばらしい
体験をしたからといって、それがそのままわれわれに通ずるとはかぎらないの
だ。むしろ、鵜のまねをするガラスで、けっきょく、骨折り損のくたびれもうけ
ということになるのではないか、と。
そうではないのである。
釈尊とおなじ瞑想をすることにより、われわれもまた彼とおなじ結果に到達す
ることが可能なのである。最初の道を切り開くものは天才でなければならぬ。し
かし、すでに天才の開いた道は、だれでも歩むことができるのである。
