かくも高度に発達した社会において、五百年、千年も前の古代において、便宜的に説かれた「仏さ
まの慈悲Ｌと「救いＬを説くことは、社会と民衆を侮辱することにほかならない。
いまやわれわれは、仏さまの慈悲による「救い」を求めるのではなく、仏陀の理念による「さと
りＬを求めなければならぬのである。仏陀の教法において、慈悲はどこまでも第二義のものであり、
第一義は智慧による「さとり」なのである。それを、いま、われわれは必要とするのである。
それはもはや、よい、わるいの問題ではない。まさに時代の要請なのである。
仏さまの慈悲による「救い」や「お助け」ではどうにもならぬところまで、人類社会は追いつめら
れてしまっているのである。逆にいうなら、そこまで追いつめられたのは、いままでの宗教のありか
たがすべてまちがっていたからである。
今日の新聞（日本経済新聞11／４）の報道によると、アメリカの上院もいよいよ。中性子爆弾”の開
発のための支出法案を可決したという。あの、。悪魔の爆弾”といわれるものである。そうして、こ
の国はキリスト教国であり、キリスト教はもっぱら「愛Ｌを説くのである。
西洋においてはキリストの「愛」が説かれ、東洋においては仏さまの「慈悲」が説かれる。
そしていまや西も東も破滅に瀕しているのである。
仏陀は、「愛Ｌと「慈悲」以上のものを説かれたのである。その仏陀の説かれたものがいまこそ必

要なのだ。
愛も慈悲も必要だが、さらにそれ以上のものが必要なのだ。それを仏陀は二千年来、叫びつづけて
いるのである。それをあなたはどう思うか。
仏陀からの再出発
人類の不幸はなによりもそのおろかなためである。愛か足りないためではない。慈悲が足りないた
めではない。智慧が足りないためである。仏陀が人類を救うために「智慧」の必要を説かれたのはま
さに正しいのである。
愛も、慈悲も、真実にして高度の智慧の上に立って考えられたとき、はじめて、真実にしてあやま
りなき愛となり、慈悲となるのである。いや、真実にして高度の智慧を得たとき、ひとはおのずから
焉 限りなき慈悲のこころと愛にみたされるのである。愛と慈悲のこころを持つたからといって人は必ず
終
の しも高い智慧を持つとはかぎらない。しかし、高度の智慧を待ったとき、人は必らず限りなき愛と慈
丁にみたされるのである。かつて仏陀がそうであったように’―・ 。

大 だが１１ヽそういう智慧は修行なくしては得られないのである。仏陀は生来賢者であったが、それ
