虚空蔵菩薩(こくうぞうぼさつ)とは？

虚空蔵とは宇宙のような無限の智慧と慈悲の心が収まっている蔵（貯蔵庫）を意味し、人々の願えを叶えるために蔵から取り出して智慧や記憶力、知識を与えてくれるとされています。

 

真言宗の開祖・弘法大師は虚空蔵菩薩の真言を１００万遍唱えるという虚空蔵求聞持法(こくうぞうぐもんじほう）を行ったそうですよ。無限の記憶力がつき、仏の智慧を体得することができるといわれています。求聞持法の本尊像のほかに、増益（ぞうやく）や除災を願って行う修法の本尊である五大虚空蔵菩薩があります。これは虚空蔵菩薩の持つ智慧を5方に配し、金剛界五仏の変化した姿としたものです。

１つの顔に２本の腕を持つ、菩薩形の像です。右手に剣、左手に如意宝珠を持っているのが一般的です。五仏宝冠を戴いた坐像として表現されます。

千の手と千の目を持ち、あらゆる衆生を救うという観音菩薩。その姿は、まさに慈悲の象徴であった。

深い霧に包まれた静寂の中、白蓮の咲く池のほとりに一人の旅僧が立っていた。彼の名は慧厳。長年の修行の果てに、千手観音の御前に辿り着いたのである。

「ここが……千手千眼観自在菩薩の御座す場所か……」

慧厳は深く息を吸い、ゆっくりと歩を進めた。霧の向こうには、黄金に輝く千の手を持つ観音が鎮座していた。その慈愛に満ちた表情は、すべてを包み込むような温もりを湛えている。

突如、観音の目がひらかれた。千の目が一斉に慧厳を見つめる。

「求めるものは何か？」

観音の声は、風のように静かに、されど深く響いた。

「私はただ、人々の苦しみを知り、救いたいと願うのみ……」

慧厳の言葉に、観音はゆっくりと手を差し伸べた。四十二本の手がそれぞれ異なる法具を携えている。そのうちの一本が、慧厳の額にそっと触れた。

「ならば、お前に慈悲の心を授けよう」

瞬間、慧厳の中に熱い光が流れ込んだ。それは限りない愛と慈しみの力。観音の千の手と目がすべての衆生を救うように、彼もまた、人々の苦しみに手を差し伸べる者となる運命を授かったのだった。

「オン・バザラ・タラマ・キリク……」

慧厳は静かに経を唱え、深く観音に礼をした。

その日から、彼は旅を続けながら、多くの苦しむ者たちに手を差し伸べることとなる。観音の慈悲の心を胸に抱き、ただひたすらに。

それが、彼に与えられた新たな道であった。

大日如来(だいにちにょらい)とは？

大日とは「大いなる日輪」という意味です。太陽を司る毘盧舎那如来がさらに進化した仏です。密教では大日如来は宇宙の真理を現し、宇宙そのものを指します。また、すべての命あるものは大日如来から生まれたとされ、釈迦如来も含めて他の仏は大日如来の化身と考えられています。

 

大日如来には悟りを得る為に必要な智慧を象徴する金剛界大日如来と、無限の慈悲の広がりを象徴する胎蔵界大日如来という2つの異なる捉え方があります。金剛とはダイヤモンドのことを指し、智慧がとても堅く絶対に傷がつくことがないことを意味しています。また、胎蔵とは母親の母胎のようにすべての森羅万象が大日如来の中に包み込まれている様を意味しています。この2つが揃って大日如来を本尊とする密教の世界観が出来上がるのです。

現世安穏、所願成就。また、未・申年生まれ守り本尊です。

本来、如来は出家後の釈迦の姿をモデルとしているため装飾品は身に付けていませんが、大日如来だけは別格で豪華な装飾品や宝冠を付けています。また、螺髪（らほつ）ではなく、髪を結い上げています。

 

金剛界、胎蔵界の姿でそれぞれ印の形が違います。金剛界の大日如来は、左手の人差し指を立て、その人差し指を右手で包みこむ智拳印の印相をしています。一方、胎蔵界の大日如来は、腹の前で両手の全指を伸ばして組み合わせる定印です。
