What is Kokuzo Bosatsu?
Kokuzo refers to a storehouse (storehouse) that contains infinite wisdom and compassion like the universe. It is said that these objects are drawn from the storehouse to grant people’s wishes and grant them wisdom, memory, and knowledge.

Kobo Daishi, the founder of Shingon Buddhism, is said to have performed the Kokuzo Gumonjiho ritual, which involves chanting the mantra of Kokuzo Bosatsu one million times. It is said that this practice grants infinite memory and allows the practitioner to embody the wisdom of the Buddha. In addition to the principal image of the Gumonjiho ritual, there are also the Five Great Kokuzo Bosatsu, which are the principal images of rituals performed to pray for increased wealth and the elimination of disasters. These represent the five forms of the Five Buddhas of the Diamond Realm, with the wisdom of Kokuzo Bosatsu arranged in five directions.

Benefits

It is also the guardian deity of those born in the years of the Ox and the Tiger. It is said to bring good fortune, ward off evil, and grant wishes to those born in those years.

Appearance of Kokuzo Bosatsu

This Bodhisattva-like statue has one face and two arms. It is typically depicted holding a sword in its right hand and a wish-granting jewel in its left. It is depicted as a seated statue wearing a five-buddha crown.

आत्मविश्वासेन आव्हानानि स्वीकुर्वितुं दिवसः

किमपि नूतनं आरभ्यतुं एषः उत्तमः दिवसः अस्ति। जोखिमपूर्णानि आव्हानानि वा भवता प्रयत्नार्थं संकोचम् अकरोत् वस्तूनि स्वीकृत्य भवतः उत्तमं परिणामं भविष्यति। यद्यपि सर्वथा अपरिचितक्षेत्रे अस्ति तथापि सक्रियरूपेण आव्हानं गृह्यताम्। भवतः कल्पनाशक्तिः उन्नता भवति, भवतः अन्तःकरणं च तीक्ष्णं भवति अतः आत्मविश्वासेन अभिनयः, स्वविचारानाम् अनुसरणं च भवतः उत्तमं परिणामं जनयिष्यति ।

कोकुजो बोसात्सु इति किम् ?
कोकुजो इति भण्डारगृहं (भण्डारगृहं) निर्दिशति यस्मिन् ब्रह्माण्डवत् अनन्तप्रज्ञा करुणा च भवति । एतानि वस्तूनि जनकामप्रदानार्थं प्रज्ञास्मृतिज्ञानं च प्रदातुं भण्डारात् आकृष्यन्ते इति कथ्यते ।

शिङ्गोन् बौद्धधर्मस्य संस्थापकः कोबो दैशी कोकुजो गुमोन्जिहो संस्कारं कृतवान् इति कथ्यते, यस्मिन् कोकुजो बोसात्सु इत्यस्य मन्त्रस्य दशलाखवारं जपः भवति अयं अभ्यासः अनन्तस्मृतिप्रदानं करोति, अभ्यासकर्तुः बुद्धस्य प्रज्ञां मूर्तरूपं दातुं शक्नोति इति कथ्यते । गुमोन्जिहो-संस्कारस्य मुख्य-प्रतिबिम्बस्य अतिरिक्तं पञ्च-महान-कोकुजो-बोसात्सु-इत्यपि सन्ति, ये धन-वृद्ध्यर्थं, आपदा-निवारणाय च प्रार्थयितुं क्रियमाणानां संस्कारानाम् प्रमुख-प्रतिमाः सन्ति एते हीरकक्षेत्रस्य पञ्चबुद्धानां पञ्चरूपाणां प्रतिनिधित्वं कुर्वन्ति, यत्र कोकुजो बोसात्सुस्य प्रज्ञा पञ्चदिशि व्यवस्थिता अस्ति ।

लाभाः

लाभेषु उन्नतश्रेणी, स्मृतिसुधारः, मनसः स्पष्टता, व्यापारसमृद्धिः, कलाशिल्पयोः उन्नतिः च अन्तर्भवति । वृषव्याघ्रवर्षेषु जायमानानां रक्षकदेवता च । तेषु वर्षेषु जायमानानां सौभाग्यं, अशुभं निवारयति, इच्छाप्रदानं च कथ्यते ।

कोकुजो बोसात्सु के प्रादुर्भाव

एषा बोधिसत्त्वरूपा प्रतिमा एकं मुखं द्विभुजं च । दक्षिणहस्ते खड्गं वामे च इच्छामणिं धारयन् चित्रितं भवति । पञ्चबुद्धमुकुटधारिणी आसनप्रतिमा चित्रिता ।

कोकुजो बोधिसत्व प्रज्ञा करुणा च

रात्रौ घण्टा मौनं विदारयति।
स्फुरन्तः प्रकाशाः, एकं हृदयं नग्नम्।
खड्गं च मणिं च, प्रज्ञा दृढतया धारिता।
अनन्तदया निशायां प्रलीयते।

कोटि जपः, प्रतिध्वनयः उड्डीयताम्।
ताराप्रकाशितः आकाशः पुनः एकवारं साक्षी भवति।
शून्यं प्रति अस्माकं आशाः प्रार्थनाः च प्रेषयामः।
भविष्यस्य प्रकाशः आरोहणं आरभते ।
