物質は四次元空間の影
物質というものは、われわれが考えているほど安定したものではないのである。むしろ、 非常に不安定なものであり、すこぶる不確実なものであるといってよい存在である。
それは、ある種の力をほんの少し加えられただけで、その存在や構造をたちまち一変して しまうようなきわどい性質を持っているように思われる。
もっともあたらしい物理学によると、すべての物質は、粒子の性質と波動の性質をあわせ 持ち、それはいったい粒子なのか波動なのか区別がつかず、光も物質もけっきょく変わりの ない同一のものなのだというはなはだ頼りない存在なのである。
いったい物質とはなんなのか。
イギリスの天文学者ジーンズはこういっている。
「物質とは何か。それは波動でもなく粒子でもない。それは、ある場合は波動的に現わ ある場合は粒子的に現われるが、そのいずれでもないのである。物質は物質的なも のではないのである。しいていうなら、それは三次元以上の世界のあるものが、三次元 空間に投影した影なのである」
物質は影である。三次元以上の世界から投影された影であると著名な物理学者はいってい るのだ。
なんと頼りなく、不安定なものではないか。
また、物質は不安定なだけでなく、実体をも持たない。

橋本博士は、これについてこう述べている。
「原子の大きさをしらべてみましょう。 原子全体の大きさは、約一億分の一センチメー トルといわれていますが、これは電子が周回している軌道の大きさで、原子核や電子は もっとずっと小さいのです。 電子と原子核を、ほんとうの割合で書こうとすると、まず 原子核を直径一ミリメートルの点でポツンと書くと、今度は電子を一〇〇メートルもは なれたところに、目に見えないような点でポツンと書かねばなりません。
直径が一〇〇メートルの球の中に、直径一ミリの点がポツンポツンとあっても、全 存在がわからないでしょう。 ほんとうは、あなたの肉体も、こういうふうにカラッポ なのです。 あなたの正味だけを集めてひと固まりにしたら、白墨のいちばん小さな粉ぐ らいになって、目には見えないでしょう。地球の正味だけを集めて、やっとリンゴぐら いの大きさになるのです。
