成長をうながす他の物質について、各種の実験が終わってから、研究は第二の段階へはいった。百におよぶニンジンの外植体”(個体からその一部を分離し、体外で培養して得た個体)が、たったひとつの容器のなかで、培されたのである。これらの細胞はそれぞれ違った経過をたどる。非常に大きくなるのもある。順次、分裂して、フィラメント状になるのもある。

酵母菌のように芽を出すものもある。さらにあるものはーーそしてこれがこの話の要点だ細胞塊となり、根を出しはじめる。固体培地へ移してやると、緑の芽をかき出す。ふたび土壌へ移して培義してやると、普通の根と茎と花と種子のあるニンジンになった!

今から亡の年前に、オーストリアの生物学者G・ハーバーランドは、このような、栄養生殖《結性生源)が、いっか実現することを夢みていた。その夢を、スチュワードは現実のものにしたのである。その後の実験から、ニンジンの初期の歴のひとつからとり出した細胞のほとんどどれでも、先に述べたように、無性的に個体にまで成長させることができることが実証された。

スチュワードが難関を突破して以来、べつの研究者たちはタバコについて同様な実験に成功した。

った。それぞれの植物により、その培養条件は違っているもののようである。これと同じことが、まもなくほかのどんた植物でも成功すると考えられている。

ところで、

間習は、これと同じことが動物細胞についてもできるかどうかということである。

その答は、決して不可能なことではない、というものである。

もちろん、それは容易なものではない。

大体、実験室で細胞を培養することは、けっして新しい技術ではない。けれども、たった一個の細胞をもとに、これを薄層の組織にまで成長させる方法が発見されたのは、つい十数年まえのことである。普通は、たった一個の細胞では、栄養培地中におかれても分裂できない。故ウィルトン・アールが、ある方法を発見してこれに成功した。が、これらの培養細胞は、分裂増殖して大きくはなっても、器官などの構造体を形成する気配をほとんど示さない。器官の形成は、多分、隣りにある別の組織から出てくる化学物質によるものだと思われている。ある程度の見当はついており、現在、その点の究明に研究がすすめられつつある。正直いって、まだ、細胞培養と察官の開には、橋がかけられていないというのが実状である。

阿弥陀如来

阿弥陀如来（あみだにょらい）は、大乗仏教の如来の一つである。梵名はアミターバ（अमिताभ, Amitābha）、あるいはアミターユス （अमितायुस्, Amitāyus）といい、それを阿弥陀と音写する。阿弥陀仏（阿弥陀佛）ともいい、また略して弥陀仏ともいう。

梵名のアミターバは「量（はかり）しれない光を持つ者」^[1]、アミターユスは「量りしれない寿命を持つ者」^[1]の意味で^[2]、これを漢訳して・無量光仏、無量寿仏ともいう。西方にある極楽浄土という仏国土（浄土）を持ち（東方は薬師如来）、五智如来において西方に位置する観自在王如来と同一視するが、真言宗では阿弥陀が法蔵菩薩であったときに師事した仏として、別尊とする

文殊菩薩

文殊の知恵」と言われるように、諸仏の智慧を司る菩薩。釈迦如来の左側に侍し、右手に知剣、左手に青蓮花を持つ。普遍の悟りと智慧をもたらす

御真言

オン、ア、ラ、ハ、シャノー

文殊菩薩（もんじゅぼさつ、梵: मञ्जुश्री、mañjuśrī〈マンジュシュリー〉、梵: मञ्जुघोष、mañjughoṣa[1]〈マンジュゴーシャ〉）は、大乗仏教の崇拝の対象である菩薩の一尊。一般に智慧を司る仏とされる[2]。その他、非人救済などの慈善事業を司るほか、日本の真言律宗では慈母供養の象徴としての一面も重視された。

文殊は文殊師利（もんじゅしり）の略称。また妙吉祥菩薩（みょうきっしょうぼさつ）などともいう。曼殊室利等とも音写し、妙吉祥、妙徳、妙首などとも訳す。文珠菩薩とも書く。 三昧耶形は青蓮華（青い熱帯睡蓮の花）、利剣、梵篋（椰子の葉に書かれた経典）など。種字はマン (मँ maṃ) 。

『文殊師利般涅槃経』によると、舎衛国の多羅聚落の梵徳というバラモンの家に生まれたとされる。また一説に釈迦十大弟子とも親しく仏典結集にも関わったとされる。『維摩経』には、維摩居士に問答でかなう者がいなかった時、居士の病床を釈迦の代理として見舞った文殊菩薩のみが対等に問答を交えたと記され、智慧の菩薩としての性格を際立たせている。この教説に基づき、維摩居士と相対した場面を表した造形も行われている。

文殊菩薩が登場するのは初期の大乗経典、特に般若経典である。ここでは釈迦仏に代って般若の「空（くう）」を説いている。『華厳経』では善財童子を仏法求道の旅へ誘う重要な役で描かれることなどからもわかるように、文殊菩薩の徳性は悟りへ到る重要な要素、般若＝智慧である。尚、本来悟りへ到るための智慧という側面の延長線上として、一般的な知恵（頭の良さや知識が優れること）の象徴ともなり、これが後に「三人寄れば文殊の智恵」ということわざを生むことになった。

中国の唐の天台宗の僧侶、湛然は『法華文句記』において、文殊菩薩は本来、龍種上尊王仏であったとする。[注 1]

文殊菩薩が、優填王、仏陀波利三蔵、善財童子、大聖老人（あるいは最勝老人＝婆藪）の四尊ともに描かれた文殊五尊図は、中国・日本などでよく描かれた。

文殊菩薩の五使者として、髻設尼、烏波髻設尼、質多羅、地慧、請召、が挙げられる。 文殊菩薩の八童子として、光綱、地慧、無垢光、不思議、請召、髻設尼、救護慧、烏波髻設尼が挙げられる。

文殊菩薩の密号は、吉祥金剛、あるいは般若金剛とされる。

これがもしも完全に成功したならば、その技術において、ヒトはまさに神になったといってもよいであろう。ただし、技術の面だけでのことだが――。

それはすでにごく一部のジャーナリズムに注目されはじめ、報道記事にされている。さし木から生まれたアインシュタインたち』というような、興味をそそられる見出しで報じられた研究
