薬師如来の意味(薬師如来とは)
薬師如来とは、薬壺を持ち病気を治す仏様として知られる、如来の一尊です。
西方極楽浄土の阿弥陀如来に対して、薬師如来は東方浄瑠璃界（いわゆる現世）の教主とされています。
阿弥陀如来は死後の来世の平穏を司る仏なのに対して、薬師如来は現世での苦しみを取り除き安泰を司る仏として扱われています。
如来とは、そもそも人間が解脱し悟りを開いた状態を指しますから、薬師如来も「悟りを開いた人物の一人」という事になります。
はじめて人間で悟りを開いたのは釈迦であり釈迦が仏教の開祖ですが、仏教が広まるにつれ、徐々にその教えが分化したり密教が栄え始めたりして行きました。
そんな中でのちに薬師如来、阿弥陀如来など、釈迦以外にも悟りを開いた如来が現れ、大日如来という仮想の存在も生まれました。
如来になる前の菩薩の時代に「十二の大願」を立て、その大願を全て果たして如来になられました。十二の大願の中には「病気の災いを除き安楽を与える」というものもあり、この大願を果たしたことから医薬を司る仏という意味で「医王」との別名があります。

Meaning of Yakushi Nyorai (What is Yakushi Nyorai)
Yakushi Nyorai is a Buddha who has a pot and heals illness.
Yamishi Nyorai is said to be the professor of the Toho Joruri world (so-called present world), in contrast to Amida Nyorai in the western paradise.
Amida Nyorai is the Buddha who controls the peace of the afterlife after death, while Yakushi Nyorai is treated as the Buddha who controls the peace by removing the suffering in this world.
Nyorai refers to the state in which human beings are liberated and enlightened in the first place, so Yakushi Nyorai is also one of the enlightened persons.
Buddha was the first human being to gain enlightenment, and Buddha was the founder of Buddhism, but as Buddhism spread, its teachings gradually differentiated and esoteric Buddhism began to flourish.
After that, Yakushi Nyorai, Amitabha Nyorai, and other enlightened Nyorai appeared, and a virtual existence called Dainichi Nyorai was born.
In the era of Bodhisattva before the time of Nyorai, he made “Twelve Great Aspirations” and fulfilled all of his wishes. Among the twelve great wishes, there is also the one to “give comfort except the disaster of illness”, and there is another name for “medicine king” in the sense of the Buddha who administers medicine because of fulfilling this great wish.
薬師如来（やくしにょらい、サンスクリット語: भैषज्यगुरु、Bhaiṣajyaguru[1]、バイシャジヤグル）、あるいは薬師瑠璃光如来（やくしるりこうにょらい）は、大乗仏教における如来の一尊。大医王、医王善逝（いおうぜんぜい）とも称する
薬師如来(やくしにょらい)とは？
東方浄瑠璃世界の教主で、正式名を薬師瑠璃光如来（やくしるりこうにょらい）といいます。
病気を治して衣食住を満たすという「十二の大願」を立て、生きている間に願いを叶えてくれます。阿弥陀如来のように死んだ後にやすらぎを与えるのではなく、現世にやすらぎを与えてくれるのが特徴です。昔の作例はとくに病気平癒を願ったものが多数存在します。
日光菩薩と月光菩薩を脇侍として三尊として並ぶことが多いです。さらに、７体の薬師如来で息災・増益を祈願する修法の本尊である七仏薬師というものも存在します。また、眷属として十二神将を従えています。

病気治癒（特に目病）、健康長寿、災難除去、安産祈願、現世利益
ら。他の装飾品等は持ちません。ただし、奈良時代までの造形は薬壺を持たない場合が多く釈迦如来と区別がつきにくいです。
